foam sculpture
This foamsculpture is closer to the essence of a barcode. From one side it’s just a pure shape but from the other side a portrait appears when you move your head. From a distance you could see different values of grey, like looking at the skyline of New York from the Staten Island Ferry. These values of grey are just false, the work is just made from black and white foam. The world could be grey through small eyes, but with a sharp look there are much more nuances.
The face you can see right in front of the work is a distorted portret of my mother. The balance of the different layers of the work have different values. The white layers are symbol of the good things, the black layers of the negative things. Behind the passe partout are certain layers we don’t talk about.
